Many businesses in the UK are affected by the Hazardous Waste (England and Wales) Regulations introduced on 16th July 2005.
Under these new regulations, all companies who produce or dispose of over 200kg of hazardous waste per year must register with the Environmental Agency (see useful links for registering information). Computer monitors, fridges, fluorescent tubes, televisions and oily rags are just a few of the everyday items now classed as Hazardous waste.
All shops/offices (non industrial sites) producing under 500kg of hazardous waste per year are not required to register. The Environment Agency indicate that 20 small televisions, 1000 fluorescent tubes or 10 small domestic fridges amount to approximately 500kg of hazardous waste. If you are unsure whether or not to register or whether or not the waste you produce is Hazardous, we will be only too glad to assist you in making your decision.
